The Last Blog :(
I think that there is no such thing as inherent goodness. You evolve as a person. People change into beings that they were not originally. It is a natural occurrence. Since I do not believe in inherent goodness, I do not think the boys from the novel were inherently good. Many of the boys changed from civilized individuals into savage hunters. They were not inherently good. Only a few of them on the island continued to maintain some of their sanity. It was a challenge that they struggled with throughout the novel. I believe that Jack was meant to be evil, but maybe not Roger. Jack seemed to always be very power hungry, which will normally get to people. It seems that no matter where he was, he would have ended up turning into what he became on the island. However, Roger does not strike me as that. It seems that he evolove into the murderer that he was in the novel. I do think that it was his environment that caused him to make that change. Piggy is a true rule follower. He was always meant to be good, in my eyes. He didn't do things that he thought he shouldn't. He also tryed to get others to do the same. He is one of the few exceptions to staying good. I am definitely not an example of inherent goodness. I have changed my personality a couple of times in my life based on personal experience. There have been time when I was the nicest person to everyone, and were times in my life when I did not get along with anyone. The phrase "inherent goodness" to me is an inaccurate term. It is not presented in most people. It is an ideal image of humans.
