Final Opinion: Inherent Goodness

In The Lord of the Flies a group of innocent boys turn into a group of savages. I do not think people are inherently good or bad. I think the situation affects how you turn out. You are the one who makes the decision wether you are good or bad. The boys in the novel were not inherently good, or inherently bad. When they arrived on the island each of the boys were good. They wouldn't kill a pig, much less another human. The circumstances of being on the island is what turned most of the boys bad. I do not think Jack or Roger were always meant to be bad. If they hadn't landed on the island i don't think either of them would be killers. When they were on the island and having to take care of themselves and wanting power turned them bad. I think that Piggy wasn't necessarily meant to be good. If he stayed on the island for a long time he might have slid towards being bad. I think I may be born good, but have the potential to be bad. I am not inherently good, if the situation presents it, I think I could turn bad. If I was in the situation the boys were, after a while I could turn bad. It isn't set in stone that I am good, everyone can change. I think it may take more for me to turn bad, but it could happen. I believe that everyone is good at some point. Certain people may turn bad quicker than others, but no one is inherently bad or good. I think where you are and who you're with affects how you turn out. Ultimatley you make the final decision.
