Inherent Goodness Final.

Again, people are not inherently good or bad. We're not born good nor bad. It's something that you learn whether you know it or not. It could also be through an event you experienced.

In the novel, the boys were not inherently good. They killed because, the obvious reason, they had to survive. They needed to kill in order to get meat. When they killed Simon that was an accident. They were so into the chant. Further more, before they were on the island there was a war(World War II) going on where they lived. So that could've impacted their decisions.

Jack and Rodger are not destined to be evil. If they had never landed on the island they would not be evil. They wouldn't have anyone to really kill, because the plane wouldn't have crashed and they would have evacuated safely.

I think Piggy is good because his auntie raised him right, which means he learned right from wrong. This goes back to my point that goodness is learned.

I am not inherently good. I know this, because I was taught right from wrong when I was younger. I have also seen people do bad things and I knew the consequences, so that processed through my brain that I don't want to do those things.

  1. Good point. I agree, people are not predetermined to anything. They grow and learn. Good examples! Nice job!

  2. I agree with you. I think that people have to decide whether or not to be good or bad.
