Are People Inherently Good? : Number 2

I do not believe that people are born good or bad. I believe that you can be born into good and bad situations but just because you are born into a bad situation doesn't mean that you cannot turn yourself into something that is good.

A reason from the novel that makes me believe that people can be born into bad situations but turn good and vice versa is how they came to the island innocent but then as the story went on they became more and more evil and eventually killed Simon. Even though some say that is was Simon's own fault and he committed indirect suicide while others say that it was everyone who killed him.

Another example is how Roger killed Piggy. Roger killed Piggy because Piggy was trying to make everyone civilized and since Roger did not want that. He killed Piggy by making a huge rock fall on Piggy. When Piggy was killed he had the conch, it was shattered and civilization had vanished. This just shows how people can start out good and turn into bad people.

An example in the real world would be Oprah Winfrey. She was born into a horrible life, she was born into poverty, raped at 9, sexually abused by her mom's boyfriend and her uncle and had a baby at fourteen. And know she is very successful with her show and at one point she was the only African American billionaire in the world.
